The substructure is engineered to safely transfer heavy vehicular and pedestrian live loads from the pre-fabricated bridge down to competent bearing strata.
Deep Pile Foundation: The design utilizes a pile foundation to provide high axial and lateral load resistance. This deep foundation strategy bypasses unsuitable near-surface soils while minimizing the excavation footprint and environmental disturbance in the sensitive creek corridor.
Reinforced Concrete Abutments: Cast-in-place concrete abutments serve as the primary load-transfer mechanism between the pre-fabricated superstructure and the piles. These abutments, along with their integrated wingwalls, are engineered to retain the compacted trail embankments and provide robust defense against hydraulic scour.
Superstructure Integration: The abutment seats are detailed specifically to receive the pre-fabricated bridge, ensuring efficient distribution of static dead loads and dynamic braking forces from maintenance vehicles into the deep foundation system.
